To-Do Update
At the beginning of the summer I posted my goals for the time “off” between school years. Â You were all wonderfully optimistic that I could accomplish everything I set out to do. Â Perhaps I was capable, however I did not manage a 100%. Â I’m not really surprised. Â Life has a way of taking over…
Here is the list along with the percent of each task I managed and the final total for the summer.
- Minimum 60 page, full-draft of Thesis. Â 75%
- Read at least one novel for Post-Colonial Lit Course. 100%
- Read all material assigned for Lit class I’m teaching.  10%
- Prepare syllabus. 100%
- Prepare plan and recipes and then teach cooking class. Â 100%
- Type all my recipes, print them, and put in a binder with sleeves. 100%
- Sort and bind all the articles floating around my desk. Â 100%
- Sort and file all my lesson plans and activities. 0%
- Spend most evenings and weekends with Jared and the boys. Â 100%
- Begin instructing Alex and Luc with the Alphabet and Catechism. Â 100%
- Celebrate the half-birthdays. Â 100%
- Have weekly family feasts on either Saturday or Sunday evening. Â 0%
I managed to do most of the research and get about 35 pages of my Thesis written, read one novel (didn’t much like it), read a few stories for the Am Lit class I’m TAing for, got the syllabus done, taught that class (which was a blast!), got the recipes typed up (mostly because someone said I wouldn’t), got those articles bound (thank you K!), did not even try to sort and file lesson plans, spent most evenings with my family, got Alex and Luc up to question 15 off the Westminster Shorter Chatechism and familiar with the Alphabet (though they don’t have it memorized), celebrated the hell out of their birthdays, and completely and utterly failed to muster the energy for Sabbath meals.
I’m giving myself a 73% overall. Â Not wonderful, but not too bad considering all the other stuff I did like taking care of my children every day, vacationing to the Grand Canyon, reading voluminously and omnivorously, and wasting hours upon hours on the internet.
Amanda (my sis-in-law) guessed the closest at 85%. Â Let me know what book you’d like and I’ll send it to you!
