Day Two Hundred and Twenty Four

Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather Page: 336

So if I actually accomplish my goal and read all the books on my list then I’ll actually have read 201 books this year. The two hundred and first? Evangellyfish by Doug Wilson. It is being published in chapter installments with a new one going up each week so scroll down and read the bottom post first. If you feel like snorting your morning coffee up your nose from convulsive laughter then give the new chapter a read each Monday morning.

I really didn’t enjoy O Pioneers! when I read it a few years ago. I felt like it ended too oddly for believability and was generally unsatisfying. However, Death Comes for the Archbishop is excellent! Maybe I am so impressed because my expectations were so low but I think the book was well worth the time. I’m thrilled that I got over 300 pages in today and doubly thrilled that the book was so enjoyable. It was a respectful portrayal of the re-organization of the Catholic Dioceses after the annexation of New Mexico by the US. The priests are portrayed as men with all that that means. Human, flawed, and holy. Each of them a mixture, each of them real. I loved it.

Here are some cute kids.

The picture of Alex and the fire hydrant is cracking me up. He looks like a little model.

    Congrats on the 300+ pages.
