Ok, so there is a little 12 year old boy somewhere in my head that goes “haha…you said ‘cock’” when I talk about this book and I can’t shut him up. But, it’s seriously a great little book for very young children. The illustrations are beyond fabulous, the rhymes are fun for little ears and the ratio of pictures to text is great for short attention spans. That ratio is also great for a busy, busy woman who has a bazillion books to process for her bookstore and 217 pages to read every day. I seriously read this entire book in two Luc feedings (that’s about 25 minutes for you non-moms).

I just checked my blog stats and saw that I had visitors from Greece, Malaysia, Sweden, Bulgaria and many other countries. So as an armchair traveler who wishes she could afford to be an actual traveler…I wish I could visit you as easily as you visited my little blog. I would love to see Australia, visit New Zealand (especially if Liz Nelson is there!), travel through Europe and oh how I would love to eat in Italy (pasta and sauce!), drink in France (the wine! the cheese!) and climb in Sweden! So go out tomorrow and really enjoy your country’s unique gifts just for me.

I had tons of work to do at the bookstore today which is why I picked today to read what is probably the easiest book on my list. One of my tasks at the bookstore is to process the books that we buy. I price them, log them into our database and shelve them. Well, lately I’ve been slacking off and reading or playing with the boys instead of doing my job and the pile of books had gotten incredibly deep. Witness:

That counter top should be bare since I have a shelf behind the desk that is supposed to hold books waiting to be processed. After today’s blitz this is what it looks like:

Obviously an improvement.

And speaking of improvements. Alex seriously gets cuter every day. He waves goodbye now, regularly says “daddy”, smiles so big it looks like his face is going to split in half and generally just acts more like a little boy and less like a baby all the time. Luc is getting fat, which seems odd because Alex never did, Luc is just starting to smile and he looks less like an alien and more like a baby (and admitting that little babies look like aliens does not make me a bad mother!). Now I have to make Jared’s current favorite dinner (spaghetti with sausage) and get the boys ready for bed so until tomorrow…

I just decided to insert a progress report. So far in 2008 I have read 23 books for a total of 10,619 pages. By this time I should have read 11, 067 pages putting me 448 pages or approximately one book behind my goal. I think I can catch up…that is if I don’t fall behind much more!

Yeah your one child is much less of an alien and more baby ‘esque and the other is so expressive now it’s just amazing.
Thanks for coming to work and saying hi.

Congrats on 23 books! You’re on your way! At my library we have a Reader’s Challenge for adults. They get a free t-shirt once they’ve completed their first 23 books, and then, the next two levels are at 56 and 99. They’ve got to pay $10 each for the other shirts, but they do get free chocolate. Keep up the good work!!

I’ve just heard about your blog via a library news feed. I’m cheering for you :) . I try to read as many books as I can every year, and the number is usually about 100.

Hi, I just came across your blog via another website. I’m so happy to see if another mom continuing to make reading a priority! Although you definitely have a bigger handful than I do! I made it a goal to keep up my reading since giving birth to my first child in November and I’m able to read about 5 books a month. Not as much as I used to, but I’m happy with it.

    Good luck with your goal!
