Day Twenty Eight

Fairy Tales by The Brothers Grimm Page: 116

The Confessions by St. Augustine Page: 222

I got much less reading done today than I wanted to. I’m still a couple hundred pages behind and would love to get caught up. While I didn’t fall any further behind I’m still not too happy with my total. I ended up having to break out another children’s book just to reach my quota. Thinking about what I wrote the other day about not having any privacy at the bookstore I decided to take the afternoon off today, hoping to get a nap in and enjoy some down time at home. This is the first day I’ve had off since December 27th and I only left work at 2pm. I have plenty to do at the bookstore but I wanted to take the chance to get some housework done and bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Well the housework is done, the cookies are baked – except for one pan that is waiting for Jared to come home so he can have warm cookies and milk before bed – but two fussy and wakeful kids meant no nap and little reading. I actually think the afternoon at Veritas would have been more relaxing!

Of course Augustine continues to amaze and inspire me. From today’s reading “I realized, too, from my own experience, that bread is a torture to a sick palate but a pleasure to a healthy one, and that weak eyes hate the light that sound eyes lve. To the wicked, even your justice is displeasing…” Good stuff. I think I’ll start Democracy in America next and then when Augustine is finished start an old favorite like Jane Eyre.
