Day Twenty Two
The Best of Wodehouse Page: 357
I had a fun morning today. Part of my job is fetching supplies for the coffeehouse. I have to make sure we have change for the cash drawer, ensure that our coffee and food gets ordered and I also have to make sure that we have plenty of cups, syrups and such. We get most of those things at Cash & Carry which is a wholesale foodservice store. Well there is no easy way to go shopping with two children too small to walk and it is especially difficult at a store whose shopping carts have neither baskets nor seats for children. So Luc can stay in his carseat and that sits on the flat base of the cart then I put had Alex stand up between Luc’s seat and the handle of the cart. Every time I turned a corner Alex would be thrown off balance and I’d have to catch him (eventually I learned to hold onto him as we cornered the aisles). Now it is important to keep in mind that these carts are extraordinarily difficult to steer as the turning wheels are in the back not the front! We made it most of the way through with no major accidents until rounding that last corner, Alex fell sideways and with the sudden stop all our supplies went sliding off the front of the cart…
However, despite my trying morning I managed to squeeze in a full allotment of Wodehouse today with an emphasis on Jeeves & Wooster. Augustine is languishing but if I don’t drink too much tonight with the girls I’ll give him a spin before lights out.
I hereby highly recommend the full length novel The Code of the Wooster’s and the short stories “Jeeves Takes Charge” and “Uncle Fred Flits By”. As I mentioned before a large quantity of Wodehouse can make the mental teeth ache but taken in reasonable 50 page doses he is good for the cardiovascular system and good for the soul.
EDIT FROM WEDNESDAY AM
I did drink a bit too much last night and went to bed without posting this. When I say I had too much, please keep in mind that I’m a lightweight! I had a martini and a tiny bit of 18 year Glenfiddich but I was still tipsy enough to forget to post the draft I’d saved. Anywhoodle…here it is.

Here’s a quick tip from someone who’s very experienced at shopping with multiple children who can’t walk…..get a hiking backpack or a Maya wrap!
(Or both!)
