Drum Roll Please

So I’m all ready to get started. I have 17 volumes sitting at the ready and I’ve picked out my first book (Boswell’s Life of Johnson) at 1243 pages I have five and three-quarters days to finish it so I need to have it done by mid-afternoon Saturday unless I start another book in the meanwhile. I’m sure Baby Luc will be getting me up sometime near midnight so I can start reading right away. I’m finishing up my last book of 2007 right now but I’m not sure if I’ll get it done. It is Wilkie Collins The Woman in White and I have about 100 of its 600+ pages left to get through but my hubby is home, my pillow is calling and I can wait till 2009 to find out how it ends. Speaking of waiting until 2009, I’ve already got a list started of books I have to wait to read, including The Children of Hurin.

So here is the plan. I will read one or more books at a time depending on my level of interest, what I’m reading to the boys (everything will be above their heads but it won’t hurt them) and where I am (I’ll have books at home and the bookstore but probably won’t carry them back and forth unless I’m really focused). I’ll post daily about what I’m reading but I won’t be reviewing the books as that will take way more time and thought than I have available. I will comment on how I’m enjoying or not enjoying them but don’t expect insightful commentary.
So here are the books I have waiting in the wings:

Mansfield Park

Pride & Prejudice

Jane Eyre

Canterbury Tales

Herodotus’ Histories

Collected Stories of Roald Dahl

The Plague, The Fall, Exile and The Kingdom and Selected Essays by Camus

Democracy in America

The Talented Mr. Ripley, Ripley Underground and Ripley’s Game by Patricia Highsmith

The Best of P G Wodehouse

Anna Karenina

1984

The Divine Comedy

and the children’s books:

The Adventures of Robin Hood

& The Scarlett Pimpernel

Initial Collection

Any votes on what I should pick up next?

Ah, a fellow Lit nut. So are you only reading stuff that is in the Everyman’s Library? I would alternate between time periods just to keep things fresh for yourself. Any George Eliot on your list? She’s my favorite author.

    much luck to you,
    David

I do have The Mill on the Floss on my list but I don’t have my copy of the book yet. Thinking of some Jane Austen soon.
